The Gateways page in the Configuration page is optimized to Configure Gateway Settings & Troubleshoot Gateways. In this article, we will go through how to navigate the Gateways page in the Configuration page.

How to Set up Industrial Gateways in Samsara

Gateways in the Configuration Page

To navigate to the Configuration Page, go to Settings (bottom left gear icon) → Gateways on the left sidebar. 


Activate and Find Gateways

Activate New Gateways

Go to top right → Activate Devices. Learn how to Activate here: Activate Device(s) in the Cloud

  • View list of all Gateways (only Industrial Gateways available on this page)

    • Online indicator (green circle = online), Gateway serial, Gateway type (e.g. IG41), Gateway name

    • # of 3PDs (hover to see name of 3PDs), # of registers

    • Connectivity indicator (WiFi with hover for name, Cellular with hover for name)

  • Download a CSV of the gateway list

  • Upload a CSV if you want to bulk edit the information of activated gateways (Fleet only right now)

  • Find Gateway(s) of interest- use the Search Bar and add Filters (Tag, Gateway Type)


Configure Basic Gateway Settings

Click the three dots to right of Gateway

  • Change gateway name, Ping test address, Assign tags, Set Ethernet IP as dynamic or static, Add any notes

  • Ping Test Address - This feature gives you the ability to test IP connectivity between the gateway and another host.

    • Default ping count = 5

    • Ping Test Address should be entered in standard ‘dotted quad' formation:

      • Examples: 192.168.1.1 or 8.8.8.8

    • Can be used to test connectivity to 3rd Party Devices or internet connected hosts, via ethernet, Wi-Fi or cellular connection.

    • Returns packet loss and round trip time statistics as below:

Pair Gateway

Use when you replace a device so it automatically transfers all the old device I/O and information. Learn how to Replace a device here: Replacing a Samsara Device

Deactivate Gateway

If you no longer need a gateway in this section, you can deactivate it here.

Warning: Deactivating gateways also clears all the device’s history (if you don’t first Pair it to the replacement device (instructions above).
