Summary

We allow Dashboards to be restricted to certain Users. If a user is assigned a Tag, they will only be able to see Dashboards assigned to that Tag.

Overview

User Access across the Samsara platform is restricted via Tags. When setting up a User, create the Tag(s) for what that user should see:

  • Assets - User will only be able to see Assets within an assigned Tag

  • Dashboard Templates - User will only be able to see Dashboard Templates within an assigned Tag

As a result, Tag Users will not be able to see Dashboard Templates if they are not Tagged.

If a Tag User has access to see a Dashboard Template, they will have access to view all telemetry on that Dashboard. Data Input & 3rd Party Device permissions do not apply.

How to Tag a Dashboard Template

Dashboard Templates can be tagged in two ways:

  • Tags - From the Tags page, select the specific Dashboard Templates that should be assigned to the Tag

  • Dashboard Template - From the specific Dashboard Template settings, select the Tags that should have access to the Dashboard Template

On the Dashboard Template List Page, Dashboard can be filtered by Tag.

Setting Default Dashboards

When a User selects Equipment, they will first see the Default Dashboard. Different Tag Users can see different Default Dashboards. The same logic for how Dashboards show up as “Default” applies.

If the User does not have access to the “Default” Dashboard, the next logical Dashboard will display as default:

  • If a User has access to 1 Dashboard Template, that Dashboard will display

  • If a User has access to multiple Dashboard Templates, the Dashboard set to “Default” will display

  • If a User has access to multiple Dashboard Templates with the same “Default” priority, a list of available Dashboards will appear

Users with Multiple Tags

If a User is assigned to multiple Tags, Users will be able to see all tagged Assets on all tagged Dashboard Templates
Users may be granted access to a Dashboard Template via Tag A. But they will still be able to see Assets via Tag B on that Dashboard.
