Summary

In complex networks, one of the most common installation challenges is ensuring that your third-party devices have a direct path of communication to your Samsara Gateways and controllers. The Ping tool, is a great way to quickly verify this connectivity. In this article, we will walk through how to troubleshoot gateway connectivity.

  • To access the Ping tool, go to the Gateways Section of the configuration page and select the Gateway you would like to test on

  • Navigate to the settings tab, enter the IP address of the 3rd-party device you would like to test in the "Ping Test Address" field sand click the "Ping" Button

  • This will open a new window and in just a few seconds, it will  report on the results of your ping test.

In addition to the ping tool, you can find more connectivity details to aid in troubleshooting within the Gateway summary tab including the current cellular operator, the gateway’s MAC address.
